Faculty-Mentor Program
Student-athletes are paired with a faculty member who serves as their mentor. The faculty-mentor serves as a support system to give the student-athletes encouragement and guidance. The mentor also helps in the transition for the student-athlete into the collegiate environment. The program has been very successful and continues to provide personal and academic guidance for student-athletes.
Peer Leader Program
Incoming freshmen student-athletes are paired with upper class teammates. This program helps the freshman understand the commitments and time demands of being a student-athlete. It also helps the freshmen deal with the balance between academics and athletics.
Advisory Committee
The Multicultural Program has a new advisory committee. The committee is comprised of six student-athletes from various sports. The members of the committee are Rene Haynes (Women’s Basketball), Michelle Huynh-Ba (Field Hockey), Taren James (Women’s Track), Idongesit (ID) Ibok (Men’s Basketball), Tramonte Pointer (Football) and Clifton Ryan (Football).
The committee will be responsible with coming up with ideas, activities and events for student-athletes. They will also be actively involved in the planning of new programs and initiatives. The advisory committee is a dynamic group and will have a great impact creating change and growth amongst student-athletes.
